The Building and Equipment
The School is located in the old City Hall in Belle Fourche. The street level hosts an art and furniture gallery featuring work by our instructors, friends, and area artists. On this level, we also have a well-stocked retail store for woodworkers that offers kiln-dried hardwoods, hand tools, new and used machinery, books, router bits and more. The ground floor is also home to our offices and a resident artist's studio. Upstairs is the workshop (about 2,000 square feet, see photos below), the lathe room, a conference room, a small photo studio, and an art studio. Please note that this level is not yet accessible to woodworkers with physical challenges. There's a stairs to climb. We're currently working on funding for an elevator. The workshop equipment includes a table saw permanently set up with a sliding table and dado head, another saw with a riving knife, a 1919 cast iron hollow chisel mortiser, lots of dust collection, JET, PSI and Delta lathes, a 15" planer, longbed jointer, numerous hand planes and several router tables. Classes are conducted from September through May. |
